Task

Create a comprehensive 30-mark GCSE exam question that tests students' understanding and skills from a Literature text of your choosing. This task should include a detailed rubric and may contain multiple components.

 

Requirements

  1. Text Selection and Rationale: Provide a brief explanation of why this text is a suitable choice for the assessment, considering its relevance, themes, and accessibility for GCSE students.
  1. Assessment Objectives: The question should aim to test AO1 and AO2 (50% weighting each). These should align with the current GCSE English Literature assessment objectives.
  1. Assessment Task Design, Rubric and Mark Scheme: Develop a mark scheme for the task, explaining how marks are awarded. The mark scheme should contain:
  • levels of response criteria which show clear differentiation between levels
  • clear indicative content providing the text specifics for the question
  • assessment objective mapping to show which assessment objectives are being assessed.
  1. Justification and Reflection: Write a brief justification (approx. 300 words) explaining how the assessment task effectively measures the intended objectives and why the chosen task components are appropriate for testing the selected skills and identify any potential challenges students might face with this assessment task and suggest strategies to support them in overcoming these challenges.

 

Assessment Criteria and thinking points to consider:

 

Alignment with GCSE Objectives: How well does the task align with the GCSE English Literature assessment objectives (AOs)?

 

Task Creativity and Engagement: Is the task engaging and challenging for students? Does it encourage deep analysis and critical thinking? Can students of all attainment levels access the task? Does the task/text take diversity and representation into account? Are there opportunities to “green” the curriculum with climate learning?

 

Clarity and Fairness of Mark Scheme: Is the mark scheme clear, fair, and consistent with the expected standards? Does it provide meaningful differentiation between levels of performance?

 

Justification and Reflection: Is the rationale for the text selection and task design well-argued? Does the reflection demonstrate a deep understanding of potential challenges and student needs?

 

Overall Coherence: Does the task demonstrate a clear, coherent structure that logically builds towards a comprehensive assessment of student skills?

 

AO1 - Read, understand and respond to texts Students should be able to: maintain a critical style and develop an informed personal response. Use textual references, including quotations, to support and illustrate interpretations.

AO2 - Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate.

AO3 - Show understanding of the relationships between texts and the contexts in which they were written.

AO4 - Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate spelling and punctuation.

As Developer you will use your experience and creativity to develop and revise high quality teaching and learning resources, sample assessment materials and components for OCR's new qualifications.

 

In order to undertake the role of Developer you will have appropriate subject and assessment expertise within the UK education system, and have the ability to produce and revise material to a specified brief. The ability to use IT confidently and effectively is essential to this role. Developing and revising resources can be carried out at home and remuneration will be set on a task by task basis.
